Food 52 – My Foodie Oscar

Last week something totally HUGE happened that was totally unexpected.  The very respected website, Food52, picked my recipe for Punjabi Buttermilk Stew as one of their favorites.   If you are not familiar with Food52, here is the skinny – it was started by two women to be a resource to home cooks and also as place where chefs can connect.  The site runs recipe contests frequently where you can submit your own dishes to be considered.  Last Fall they run a contest for the dinner dish that makes the best lunch the next day.  I submitted my Punjabi Buttermilk Stew and expected nothing.  And of course, I did not win.  It would be totally wild if I won a contest the first time I entered.  I vowed to keep entering contests.  But the holidays came, lots of travel happened and I just didn’t get around to it.

Fast forward to last week.  I noticed a spike in my blog traffic – strange because I had been inactive for a few weeks while we were in Kolkata and then recovering from the trip.  A reader left a comment mentioning Food52 so I popped over to their site and saw my recipe.  On the homepage.  As a community pick and wildcard winner.  Guys, I literally felt like I had won a foodie Oscar.  I was speechless and ecstatic at the same time.  I can’t tell you how much this means to me!  The folks at Food52 did a full on review of the recipe which means they made and really, really liked it.  I am so flattered because the community at Food52 is one of my inspirations and also a place where I look up to so many chefs.  I cook from the site ALL the time.  SO grateful for this honor.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time.  I am in the midst of migrating off of blogger to my own wordpress hosted site which will allow me to have many more features that will be useful for you – like recipe search and rating capabilities.  The mention from Food52 just gave me that extra kick in the pants to get the migration going in high gear.  Expect to see the new Samosa Junkie in February.  I cannot wait to share it with you!  And if you have a moment check out my recipe on Food52 and give it some love.

Oh, and if you are looking for some Indian grub to make for this Sunday’s big game, let me please recommend tandoori ribs, Bengali potato and pea chop and perhaps these spicy garbanzo beans (chole) with your favorite samosas.  I hope the halftime show rocks.

I’m test driving a few dishes this weekend so I’m hoping to have a new recipe to share next week if all goes well.  Fingers crosssed!

I stumbled across your blog via Food52 and just wanted to let you know how much I am enjoying it. We love Indian food (even my 1-year-old), so it’s always nice to find another source of good recipes for the home cook. Looking forward to trying the stew.
